At PS 56, our goal is to educate the whole child, with an engaging, challenging, and rigorous curriculum, an emphasis on healthy and happy living, and artistic endeavors on a daily basis. Through a collaborative effort, our entire school community, teachers, parents, support staff, and students work together to create a positive and productive school environment. PS 56 offers Pre-K through 5th grade, and many special programs.
PS 56 Lewis H. Latimer is a school that seeks to develop a community of learners and community of leaders that will grow and develop into active citizens with a mission to positively impact the world.
All children can learn within an engaging, supportive, and challenging learning environment. All students will express themselves, engage in complex tasks, discuss their thoughts and feelings with their peers and teachers, and explore their talents through various means and experiences. Staff will educate the whole child, by providing a variety of experiences, through literacy, the arts, sciences, mathematics, and physical education, so that all students can find their passion and talent in the world. We believe that we are a community of learners and a community of leaders. We strive to change the world around us by becoming a leader in an area of our choosing and expressing our leadership through speaking, listening to others, and our actions. Through these means, our school thrives and grows in a multitude of ways, and every day our students positively impact their lives and the lives of others.
Eric Grande joined PS 56 at the Principle in 2016. He has taken a strong leadership role by building new programs while honoring the traditions of the school.
