Run for a PTA Office for the 2019 -2020 school year.

  • Nominations are due Monday April 1st.
  • Elections will take place on April 15th at 6 PM, at the PTA general meeting in the cafeteria.

All parents that have a child as a student attending PS 56 are eligible to hold office, unless they are employee of the school.

You can nominate yourself or someone else. To make a nomination,  fill out the information below and submit it to a nomination committee member in person, at the PS 56 main office or by email to by Monday April 1, 2019.

Elections will be held in the PS 56 Cafeteria, Monday, April 15, 2019 at 6 pm.

All parents are eligible to vote. Voting must be done in person. Voting by email, phone call, or proxy is not permitted.



President or Co-Presidents (1) Opening: Preside at all PA/PTA meetings and meets with the Executive Board members to plan agendas for general membership meetings. Appoints chairpersons of all committees, delegates responsibilities to PA/PTA members, is one of the signatories on checks, and is responsible for encouraging parental involvement. The president is a mandatory member of the SLT. The president is one of the selectors of the parent members of its corresponding CEC or Citywide Education Council. (see C.R. A-660)

  • This position is one of the three mandatory offices of the PTA.

Treasurer (1) Opening: Spearhead the development of the PA/PTA budget. Keep a record of all income received by the PA/PTA. Keep a record of all expenditures of the PA/PTA. Provide a written treasurer’s report. Prepare the tax forms and file them at the appropriate time. Prepare interim reports (January Interim, PA/PTA Financial Report and June Annual Financial Report) and the Fundraising Activity Report. Is one of the signatories of all checks. Is one of the voting members of the CEC.

  • Treasurers need to be present at the school frequently enough to collect fundraising receipts, write checks disbursing funds to support PA/PTA programs and document those activities. (See CR A-660)
  • This position is one of the three mandatory offices of the PTA.

Recording Secretary (1) Opening: Responsible for all non-financial PT/PTA records and communications with the PA/PTA membership. Record minutes of all PA/PTA meetings. Prepare, read and distribute copies of minutes at each PA/PTA meeting. Prepare notices, agendas, sign-in sheets and materials for distribution. Maintain custody of the PA/PTA records on school premises. Review, maintain and respond to all correspondence addressed to the PA/PTA. Is one of the voting members of the CEC.

  • This position is one of the three mandatory offices of the PTA.

Vice President (1) Opening: Act as aide to the president, perform the duties of the president in the absence or inability of that officer to serve. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the association.

Historian (1) Opening: Captures, assembles and preserves record of activities and achievements of a PTA. Collects volunteer hours for PTA meetings and events. Maintains the Parent Book of the PTA. Incorporates all amendments into the bylaws and ensures that signed copies of the bylaws, with latest amendments are on file with the Principal. Maintains past 7 years worth of PA/PTA books in a secure location. Acts as Parliamentarian at General Membership Meetings. Collects volunteer hours to maintain 501(c)(3) status.

School Leadership Team (SLT) (4) Openings: Meets at least once a month to determine the structure of school-based planning and shared decision-making in a collaborative manner with school staff. SLT members also help to evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s education programs and their impact on student’s achievements.
