Saturday, March 21 from 10 AM – 3 PM at PS 56
A day-long community celebration of reading, theater and storytelling under the stars, tailored for toddlers to 5th graders.
Featuring Susan Choi, winner of the National Book Award
New this year: podcast making, musical storytelling, marshmallow roasting, a paper forest!
Admission is FREE and the Event is Open to the Community!
Reading Campground is a special day at PS 56. Our school gymnasium is transformed into a woodland campground with reading tents, toddler teepees and stars overhead as we gather round the campfire for scary stories, performances, music and author readings.
This year you’ll be able to visit (and add to) our Paper Forest. In the Cookshop classroom, kids can make their own podcasts about times they faced their fears.
In the lobby, the latest and best new children’s books will be on sale at a discount, including board books, art and activity books, graphic novels, science books, novelties and newly illustrated classics. Prices start at $1!
Who’s that with all the pockets? The Pocket Fairy! The PS 56 Pocket Fairy’s splendid cloak is stocked with surprises. A Pocket Fairy ticket is free with every book purchase while supplies last!
In the cafeteria, enjoy art with Studio in a School, chess with Mr. Keys, and refreshments for sale including lunch, coffee, cider, and a hot chocolate bar.
In the courtyard, kids will be able to roast their own marshmallows for s’mores.
